Heading North
Monday, September 10th
Errands, errands, last minute shopping, getting the bikes ready, beer runs, and two independent women trying not to step on each other's toes too much.
The Dahon folding bikes have a cute factor of 9.7 out of 10. After much knuckle scraping I managed to get the water bottle cages mounted, panniers checked out and mounted, rigged a makeshift "handlebar bag" with velcro straps and a token amount of cussing and swearing. There are bags available that would fit the bikes but I'm cheap and not about to buy yet another bag.
We test rode the bikes fully loaded and both couldn't believe how stable the Speed TR is with front and rear panniers. The MU XL has no front racks and the weight in the back makes it a little light in the front. But nothing too serious so far.

Up at 5:45 and out the door at 5 minutes after 6 with the fully loaded bikes. The 20" wheels felt rather stable, or at least much more stable than I would have thought. OK, I didn't go down in a big bloody heap. That's success as far as I'm concerned. We arrived 45 minutes early and I simply had to laugh at my own anal nature. Well, we managed to have some coffee at Blenz and then hopped onto the Grayline bus to head to the North Vancouver train station. I convinced Ulrike to sit in the front suicide seats only to later be berated for not leaving them for little old ladies. Sheesh ...that last little old lady managed just fine squeezing her walker to the back seats. She only fell once or twice, max. OK if you don't understand tongue in cheek maybe you shouldn't read any further ...smartass alert!

Ulrike Boarding the Whistler Mountaineer.
I have driven the Squamish Highway ...OK, OK, Sea to Sky Highway, dozens of times and I never get tired of the stunning scenery. Of course the train gives us a different view of the area, and without the stress of having to pay attention to the road. I can't really describe the trip except through pictures.

Across Howe Sound.

A Very Content Ulrike on the Train.

Cheakamus Canyon.

Whistler Mountaineer.

Whistler Mountaineer.

Boarding the BC Transit Bus in Whistler.
Feeling like I'm right back at work.
